Can you stain indoor concrete?

Oct 10

Concrete floors are readily available in many locations. With the almost endless design options, it might surprise you to learn that interior polished concrete floors can be colored or stained. These are the five steps that will make a beautiful decorative concrete floor.

1. Prepare the surface

You must start with a clean slate. It would help if you removed any oil stains or other contaminants.

After your floor has been cleaned, you can move on to the next stage of grinding. This step is easy if you are familiar with the floor buffer and angle grinder.

You can rent a floor machine sander and then fit it with diamond pads. Single-pad machines can be easily found and are easy to use.

For the edges, use an angle grinder with a diamond grinder. Wet grinding is preferred because it reduces dust production, but a safety glasses filter will protect your eyes and lungs.

2. For best results, clean the surface

After the concrete has been smoothed and is free from any coatings, vacuum it or wash it off. Next, apply the concrete cleaning solution to all surfaces with a mop. This is usually done using a soft brush or a mop. Let it dry.

3. Cover the design

You can mask any areas you don't wish to be colored, such as walls, thresholds, baseboards and floor fixtures. You can be creative here. Use masking tape or butcher paper or tape and drape for intricate designs. You can use multiple colors to make a pattern. Start with Step 4 and then repeat the process for another color.

4. Use the color

Spray the color with a sprayer in two to three coats. Allow it to dry between. You can also use a brush to do detail work or cut edges. Concrete colors come in many shades that can be mixed and matched to suit your space and design goals.

5. Seal the color

Apply concrete sealer. There are many ways to apply a concrete sealer to polished concrete floors, depending on how it was used. For a glossy and highly smooth finish, microfiber pads and a sprayer are the best options.

Two coats of sealer should be applied with no more than four hours between them. Wait three to four days before you open your floor for foot traffic or furniture placement.Tampa concrete driveway installer can help you to install your stain concrete.
